Features Getting paid · Open bills

Keep an open bill. Close it when the customer pays.

The customer is still with you and will pay at the end: a table that is eating, a car in the garage, a customer in the salon chair, or a site that buys on account. Put each order on an open bill under a name you choose, and close it when they are ready to pay.

How it works

What you do, and what Meku does with it.

  1. You

At the POS, select Open bill under PAYMENT LATER and type a name, such as Table 4, T123 ABC or Site B. Tap Charge.

    Meku

Records the order as a sale, takes the stock or the ingredients off, and opens the bill under Debts → Open bills. It does not ask for a phone number, because a table does not have one.

  2. You

When they order again, sell it under the same name.

    Meku

Adds the order to the same bill. Nothing is left open on the phone, so if the phone switches off during service, nothing is lost.

  3. You

Tap the bill to see it.

    Meku

Shows every order with its items and its total. It prints BILL, not receipt, because nobody has paid yet. A receipt given at that moment would say that a payment happened when it did not.

  4. You

When they pay, tap Close bill and choose the account the money went into.

    Meku

Pays every open order at once and puts the money in that account, including an order added while the bill was open on the screen.

  5. You

If people pay separately, untick the orders this person is not paying for.

    Meku

Calculates the amount from the sales that are still ticked. The rest of the bill stays open for whoever is paying it.

Questions

Is an open bill the same as selling on credit?

No, and Meku keeps them apart. A debt is followed up for weeks, and it is useful to sort debts by age. An open bill means the customer is still sitting there and will pay within the hour. Open bills have their own list, with no reminders and no ages.

Can a waiter take the money?

Only if you allow it. Opening a bill and closing one are two separate permissions. A waiter serves the table, and the staff at the POS closes the bill. If you give both permissions to everybody, nothing changes for a small shop.

Does an open bill count as a sale immediately?

Yes. The food was eaten and the work was done, so it counts as a sale when you make it. The money counts when the bill is closed.

What if a table never pays?

The bill stays open until you close it or cancel the orders. Meku never closes a bill by itself. An unpaid bill at closing time is something to discuss with the customer, not a reason to record a payment that did not happen.
