Most businesses in Tanzania charge no tax at all, and Meku starts that way, so there is nothing to switch off. If you do charge one, you keep the list: what it is called, how much it charges, and where it applies.
Create your account Set-up guidesWhat you do, and what Meku does with it.
Settings → Taxes: add one. Give it your own name, such as VAT, Tourism levy or Service charge, the rate, and whether it is a government tax, a levy or your own charge.
Creates it switched off. A tax that starts charging customers as soon as it is typed would surprise the person who only wanted to see what it does.
Switch it on where it applies: at the POS, online or both. Choose whether it starts on or off for a sale at the POS.
Adds it to online orders without anybody pressing anything, because nobody is there to ask.
At the POS, the tax is shown on the charge screen. Leave it on for the company that needs a tax receipt. Switch it off for the walk-in customer who does not.
Changes the total as you switch. A tax that is switched off still shows what it would have added, so you can see what you chose.
Nothing.
Records the tax on the sale with its name, its rate and its amount, so what you collected is a figure you can look up, not one you calculate later.
Nothing.
Keeps your sales as the full amount, the way you would say it aloud. Only the accounts at the end of the year separate the tax from your own money.
Not at all. There are no taxes until you add one, and nothing at the POS changes.
No. The tax is added on top at checkout, so the price on the shelf, in your product list and on the marketplace stays the same.
No. Meku records what you charged on every sale, with the name and the rate. What you must pay, and when to file it, is between you and TRA. But the figures are there when you or your accountant need them.
Who the money belongs to. A government tax or a levy is collected for someone else and paid to them. A service charge is your own money and counts as a sale. They look the same on a receipt but are opposite in your accounts, so Meku asks once, when you create the tax.
